A photo of Mx. Sly, captured by their colleague, Sly Feiticeira. The photo shows Mx. Sly from the chest up. They stand in a white room with a window behind them. They are a white non-binary person, elf-life in appearance, with an undercut and short grey-brown hair.  A dark grey t-shirt hangs off their slight frame and breasts. On the window ledge behind them are delicate origami boxes, folded from brightly-coloured paper. They look away from the camera; the point of their focus unseen in the photo. Mx. Sly’s lips are slightly parted. Their facial expression is focused and curious, but also enigmatic.

long Bio

Mx. Sly (they/them) is a non-binary writer, performer, arts producer, and flight attendant. Originally from Montreal and now based in Melbourne, they pursue contentment through incessant meal planning, doing Yoga with Adriene, making love like a beast, and making out in Melbourne’s many laneways. Sly moved to Toronto when they were a teenager, went to high school with Drake, and dropped out of university to work in shitty call centres. Amid three-hour weekday commutes and weekends of finger-banging in bathrooms on Church Street, they got into professional arts practice through platforms like Videofag, Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, and Xtra Magazine. Their first essay for Xtra, titled “When queer sexual mentorship comes in the form of cling wrap,” was a finalist in the 2017 Digital Publishing Awards, alongside writers Vivek Shraya and Heather O’Neill. Their play Charisma Furs was then included in the seminal anthology Q2Q: Queer Canadian Performance Texts, which was a finalist in the 2019 Lambda Literary Awards. When Sly isn’t in the sky, they run the arts collective Tender Container, which is developing Canada’s first all–trans and non-binary performance anthology for Playwrights Canada Press. TRANSLAND is Mx. Sly’s first book and will be published by Arsenal Pulp Press in 2023.
